Here are the three questions to respond to for Mosaic of Thought.
However, they are not meant to be additional "papers." I worry people
will "overdo" these. Each one should take no more than one hour.
I will grade them as I would "participation" in a class discussion.
Please send your responses as an e-mail...OR, if you remember your number from last semester, you may post using the student number page below.
1) If you had to summarize the "big idea" of this book into a ten-word
sentence, what would that sentence be? After coming up with the sentence,
write a summary paragraph about the "big message" of this text.
2) Write a letter to the author (...a draft).
3) Imagine you are in a Reading Group and do the following "jobs" for
this text:
Literary "Illuminary"
Find three passages from the book (from three different sections of the
book) that you find compelling/important. Please write them down on three
index cards and bring these to class. For each passage, write a few notes
why you selected it.
"Discussion Director"
Write three discussion questions for this text. Please write them down on
three index cards and bring these to class. These questions should have
multiple answers that could foster discussion between educators. (please
consider framing your three questions to demonstrate completion of the
entire book.)
"Connector"
Make three connections to this text. They can be text-to-text,
text-to-world, or text-to-self. Please describe your connections for the
reader (that's me!)
THIS IS IT! The one and only syllabus for Literacy II! (click on the link below):
SAMPLE UNITS...don't consider their formats "must do's." My hand-out gave the general headings I will be looking for in your unit overview--but I include some samples so you can see how they generally read/look, etc.

SITES/RESOURCES (I posted these after the last class)
This site reviews the four block method of literacy instruction: http://www.wfu.edu/education/fourblocks/about_fourblocks.html
This site contains many educational videos. After registering, you can access video clips that would give you a glimpse into classrooms and allow you to learn more about the "teacher lens."
MY LAB SCHOOL IS UP AND RUNNING!
HERE is the My Lab School, which includes video clips...you can also click "home" on the top task bar and it will take you to the page where you can put in an assignment code;
or you can poke around and find all sorts of resources. There is an amazing lesson plan template that automatically links with the standards via a US Map. Very very helpful!
I gave you my login information at class--which, unless we're all logging in at once, should work.
Super Site (Clear here for a great resource--a little bit of everything you might need.)
This site provides access to many, many article review possibilities: http://reading.indiana.edu/
This site provides ideas for lesson plans:
Great Article on Reading Aloud (you may want to check out more of Reading Rockets)
Excellent Article on Informational Text and its importance
BELOW ARE YOUR PAGES--you can do your journal assignments and observations here...I check periodically
